Souvenir City
Reimagining mass-produced souvenirs into abstract art through visual manipulation
From kitsch to abstract, 'Souvenir City' explores authenticity in commodified souvenirs. Through employing visual distortion techniques such as scanning and collage, it transforms mass-produced trinkets from Singapore and Bangkok into abstract art. These accumulate in a three-part collection souvenir shop where I am showcasing my perceived version of authenticity, selecting souvenirs that naturally incorporate a distortion effect. This challenges international students to reframe the concept of 'authentic' souvenirs and embrace possibilities for creative transformation.
