Uncovering Jawi script's versatile potential and fostering diverse typographic expressions in design.
Inspired by the dynamic typography of 20th-century Malay magazines and rooted in established Arabic calligraphy styles, this project looks to explore varied interpretations of Jawi letterforms and its contemporary allographs, highlighting Jawi's versatility as a written script. By exploring the letterforms in its cultural and linguistic context, this explorative project also aims to challenge Eurocentric norms in typographic practices and hold a space for Jawi typography to thrive in modern graphic design.
