An experimentational idea of combining gamification and game-based learning for language learning.

Learning a second language can be both frustrating and challenging even for long-time adult learners. Many of today’s Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) platforms are all mixed with gamification in hopes to motivate learners by promoting learning experience as a fun and engaging activity through these platforms. However, recent studies show that the duration of engagement and activities on these apps are gradually declining amongst intermediate learners and beyond, suggesting a potential decrease in learners’ engagement.
