Based in Singapore and originally from Indonesia, Rania explores her Chinese-Indonesian identity through visual storytelling. Growing up, eating bakmi was a regular family activity and an important part of her childhood memories. Her work looks at how food can help reconnect people with their roots and personal history. Through her imagery, Rania reflects the warmth of these shared moments, showing how a simple bowl of noodles can hold a sense of comfort and belonging.
Bowls Of Memories
Capturing the warmth of shared family memories and a lifelong bakmi nostalgia
This project is a personal exploration of the nostalgia carried within a single bowl of bakmi. It investigates how a simple meal acts as a sensory vessel, capable of reviving sights, sounds, and emotions of my past. Through a blend of illustration and storytelling, I aim to capture the profound sense of comfort and home tied to these noodles, preserving not just the culinary traditions but the enduring warmth of the moments shared around them.
